July 4th and 5th

The last two days have been busy. Covered three states and now getting ready for the trip home. On the fourth went to a zoo saw bears and buffaloes. Then went to a western theme supper club. Had Chuck Wagon style food. There was a live band who played all sorts of music even some from the Sons of the Pioneers. Went back to the Crazy House Monument. They had an amazing laser light show at crazy horse. Spent today, July 5th driving back to made another stop at the Devils Tower to stretch on the way. It has been a great trip here out west.

July 2nd and 3rd South Dakota

 We spent the last two days doing some hiking. First we did a trail at Custer National Park. Then we hit the Bad Lands.  Custer had some very interesting roads that cut through a mountain. Some very narrow passages.  The Bad Lands are so wide open it is amazing. The hike at the bad lands gives a land scape like your on Mars. This is an area where many fossils have been found over the years. We wrapped up the day with a stop at Wall Drug. This place is an awesome tourist trap in the best sense of the Old West.

Another Day Out West

Well it was another fun filled day out in South Dakota. 

We took a short drive to Mount Rushmore. A very interesting site. I learned that the reason why it was carved was to attract tourist to the area.  Mission accomplished. I also learned on the tour that the first idea was not presidents but rather western heroes. What a strange idea having Buffalo Bill Cody up there instead of Lincoln. 

After Leaving Mount Rushmore we headed over to the Crazy Horse sculpture, which is still under construction. This monument to Native Americans is on a scale much large than Rushmore. The guide let us know that all four faces or Rushmore could fit on the face of Crazy Horse.  The work on the Crazy Horse Monument is still underway, we could hear the work happening while we were there.  The visitors center is pleasant and we ate at the restaurant on site.  We both  had Buffalo Burgers.  One the drive back we stopped in the small town right before the entrance to Mount Rushmore. A fun little area and while there we found Bigfoot as seen in the pictures posted. Well more fun and adventures to come.

Out West Part Two.

 We arrived yesterday in Billings, Montana spent the night and then headed off bright an early this morning. First stop was little big horn site of Custer’s Last stand in 1876. Weather was very nice. Then we headed off to Devil’s Tower, as seen in many movies like close encounters. 

We hiked around the base of the tower. Very pleasant 

Tonight we are staying in Rapid City South Dakota.

This sign also caught my attention. I did not see or hear any rattlesnakes.

The hike around the base of the tower is a little over three miles. On some of the hike there tree areas then it turns to the red rocks in the picture below. I also include a picture of the trading post. 

Well, that is all for today from out west. We went from Montana to Wyoming and finally South Dakota
